“We are honored to be included among these greats. They have all rocked our lives, and sometimes saved them. We’re very happy!” –Ann and Nancy Wilson
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 15 nominations for the 2012 class. As reported earlier on the Heartlinker the buzz around Heart was building up these last weeks and finally the first step has been taken with this nomination! Congratulations to Heart! Now let’s all hope they make the second step and get inducted.
Fanpoll: For what it’s worth, everyone was able to vote at the Rock Hall’s website which of the 15 nominated performers & bands should be inducted. Heart has reached 4th place behind Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N’ Roses & The Cure. The poll ended on November 28th 2011. The real decisions will be made by the roughly 500 voting members of the Rock Hall, not by this fan poll.
Schedule: Official voting members of the Rock Hall will have to have their ballot in by December 5th 2011. The Rock Hall will make their announcement of the 2012 Inductees on December 15th 2011 at 10:30 AM, but this article says December 7th 2011. The 27th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held in Cleveland on Saturday, April 14 2012.
Click here for an interview with Roger Fisher about the nomination.
FutureRockLegends: Heart and Jimmie King had been eligible for years without even making the Rock Hall’s “Previously Considered” list, but then get nominated. That is the first time in recent memory that an artist managed to do that. The vast majority of nominees come from the “shortlist”.
FutureRockLegends predicts Heart to be among the 5 Inductees! (added November 24th 2011)
From the Rock Hall:
HEART
With a mix of hard rock riffs and lush, driving harmonies, Heart emerged from the Pacific Northwest with one of the most original sounds of the 1970s. Behind Ann Wilson’s powerhouse voice—one of the best in rock—and Nancy Wilson’s percussive guitar playing, along with guitarist Roger Fisher, bassist Steve Fossen, guitarist/keyboard player Howard Leese and drummer Michael DeRosier, Heart recorded a series of albums that stand as the best mix of hard rock and folk rock of their era: Dreamboat Annie, Little Queen, Dog And Butterfly and Bebe Le Strange. All those records included hit singles that remain standards of rock radio: “Magic Man,” “Crazy On You,” “Heartless” and “Barracuda.” Over their long career, Heart has released six Top 10 albums and twenty Top 40 singles. The first women to front a hard rock band, Ann and Nancy Wilson were pioneers, claiming the stage in a way that inspired women to pick up an electric guitar or start a band. When MTV transformed mainstream rock in the 1980s, Heart adapted and recorded some of the signature songs of the era: “Alone,” “What About Love” and “These Dreams.” In the 1990s, they returned to their roots with Desire Walks On and The Road Home, and in the last decade, they’ve released two of the strongest albums of their careers: Jupiters Darling and Red Velvet Car. Live, they have always been one of the most exciting and consistent hard rock bands on the scene.

“Alone” in St. Louis, August 10th 2011. Ann Wilson (61!) Best Voice In Rock.

Wonderful news this evening! I am really happy for Nancy and Ann and hope that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame makes the second step, inducting them, too.
My take is that Heart are the most deserving out of everyone. Just put them in. They have been working hard all these years. They put out good quality music. When Barracuda is played in the rock night clubs. It always gets a great buzz.
I am saying a prayer. Out of everyone that is in music. They are the most deserving.
FINALLY THE FIRST STEP! WHAT THE CRITERIA IS FROM HERE ON I DONT KNOW? DOES THE VOTES GET THEM INDUCTED OR IS A COMBO OF VOTES PLUS THE HALL OF FAME COMMITTEE? DOES ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW??? CONGRATS ANN AND NANCY FROM YOUR CANADIAN FANS!!!
The real decisions will be made by the voters of the Rock Hall: not by this fanpoll!
Roger Fisher is a GREAT guitarist, but I find it cheezy that he is releasing his own new version of Love Alive. Didn’t he try that before with Barracuda? I can only see undesirable controversy coming from that, for ALL parties. I don’t thinks his soul is invested in ANY of those lyrics, so he should just leave it alone! Roger, WRITE SOMETHING NEW !!!!! If your lyrical creativity can’t match up with your guitar technique, then find someone to play with, that can write and create something new and wonderful. That would help EVERYONE in the Rock and Roll world.
thank you Permalink. Vaughan
OOPS! I MEAN TDHS VAUGHAN
The Cure, I can deal with. But not GNR or RHCP, although I really like both. Heart deserve it more than anyone on that list tho.
wth are the Beastie Boys doing on that list? No, just..no.
Great news that they’ve finally gotten nom’d tho.
ps. Also, I could deal with Joan Jett beating them to it (sorry to say..but come on, its Joan Jett!;))
