The Mountain: So tell me about your new album, and what kinds of projects you’re working right now?
Nancy: We are writing songs and making demos. Here and there we get together, in all kinds of various locations with our speakers and laptops and guitars and microphones and just pound them out. Ann and I are doing as much writing together as we can, on the tour bus, between show days we are just putting new songs together as fast as we can. We are really excited to keep working, it makes us feel relevant to keep doing new material all the time. More from The Mountain
I needed some days to think and feel about this interview. What I really like, and this shows to me an important part of Nancy’s soul, is the way she talked about the induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And if it’s more important for you to get the feeling that your fans take care about you than finally get a fast induction it shows how grounded she is and why and for who she does this creative work. I also signed the petition and wrote a letter to the Hall because Heart’s work about decades and their influence to other artists is so big. They deserve it to get inducted. But since some time I got strange feelings by reading more and more posts that took words like “hate” against the Hall inside. It took me away from some places because it is not my way of supporting someone or blackmail an institution in a fanatic way. So Nancy’s words made me happy inside.
The other side is, also having creative times in another business, the way she talked about creating a new album. As a real friend I would tell her “don’t forget to breathe between, also take time to the beautiful things that passes by on your left or right side”. Because having only a time line inside to give new material to your fans, maybe because feeling a big pressure to do something new instead having time to create it in steps, let the danger grow to create a fast (listening) thing. But sometimes we have ready work inside and only need to find the right time to write it down.
I have sometimes inner struggles between feeling like a fan, sure interested in the work, and from the soul look to another person. Like the tours. Nancy said in another interview that she likes the touring not so much. Now at the Rock Hall event Ann talked about the possibility of a new tour and I, happy if it would come true, post this. Did this maybe start a new pressure to Nancy? I want to see her and Ann happy in their lives, so I got afterwards deep thoughts about that. I hope they will finally decide all things from their heart, not thinking that they would disappoint or take away a real fan or friend when their decision would be a no. It is needed to respect.
