Nancy interview: 6/’12 harder-rocking CD

Nancy Wilson

Milwaukee’s JS Online by Piet Levy; Another reason for the resurgence is because Heart, despite having enough hits to coast on for years, continues to make good original music, as evident on “Red Velvet Car.” More focused and about half the length of 2004’s “Jupiters Darling,” “Car” found Heart challenging itself “to show how much acoustic guitars can be rock,” Wilson said. The band plans to plug in for a harder-rocking album next June. Click here for the rest of the interview! Thanx Piet!

  1. A great statement from Nancy in this article. And some facts she talked about are important reasons for me that took me back to Heart’s music after a long break. Maybe because this break I look different on Heart and their music work about decades. I am like a stray street cat, normally not made for following a band or stars like many fans do. So what is special on Heart’s music that hold me on an orbit around them? At the age of 15/16 you buy an album because there is a special song on it and/or it has a great cover. I did it too, but listen to “Little Queen” surprised me in so many things I never had expected before. For my ears there has been complete new sound colors, away from the mainstream into a kind of fantasy world.
In the 90’s I bought a sampler of different rock ballades. #13 was “All I wanna do” in a fantastic live version. I loved that song and it was often running while driving my car. But, being so busy at this time and running through my life, it took a long time until I realized that it has been Heart who played it. Again a new sound color of Heart I got injected.
And then you start one day working for free with other people on an important project and do some investigations on the Internet for it. Sometimes you need a break and remember music you loved once. Another kind of investigation after looking on my old albums here. And surprise, I found Heart. More surprises as I found so many actual music. Really fascinating. Older titles in new clothes sounded brilliant in actual concert clips. I found also some good music from other artists I remembered from the past. But here has been only some pieces worth to remember for a longer time while Heart had not lost anything of it’s broad musical spectrum and fascinating about the years. Sure, the sound today is different to the 70’s, but this makes it more interesting to explore their music again and look more on the lyrics.
All members of the band are great musicians. And the music borders they are able to cross are one important element that makes their music different from short living hit wonders. Those can only exist in a special created music environment. Here Heart plays in another league.
Ann has a fantastic voice and is a wonderful flute player, Nancy has a great voice too and magic hands while playing an instrument. There is really a song needed for her, titled “Magic Woman”, beside the well known “Magic Man”. And, like Ann, Nancy has created some wonderful music beside Heart. If you need to calm down after having big stress, listen to “Elevator Beat”. 30 years ago, not having a CD player, I would have gone to buy an endless tape and listen to it while drifting away in peace dreams. And this talent is a very special gift she can use to create rock music or “quiet music”, touching hearts and souls. Timeless music. This is my personal look on her.
And in this article she talks about the differences between many extremely short living pop culture and the music work of Heart. It’s exactly what I feel too looking around in the music scene. There are still big talents today, but often they start too fast and without possibilities to expand their music about decades. I believe that Heart works really hard to stay on that high level and I am glad that they are still creative on it. And my feeling tells me same like Nancy say, they don’t burned out. I wait for the next album and what surprises are on it. I am happy for Heart that they will get a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. They really deserve it.
