Examiner.com: “We hope that there is a change of Heart along the way to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Longtime fans of the band’s earlier and most critically acclaimed work would love to see the six members who crafted those classic records do their thing together live once again. Perhaps it would provide some closure as well being a fitting tribute to one of Seattle’s greatest treasures.”

Examiner.com: “When the list of 15 nominees came out earlier in the year, most critics figured one of the two “girl rocker” groups would get in, but not both. While this one could have gone either way, Joan Jett barely missed The Hall of Fame in 2012 and most figured her increased influence would overcome Heart’s massive string of hits. But in the end, Ann and Nancy Wilson walked away with the honors while Jett has to hope that the “third time’s a charm” on the 2014 ballot.”

Go106.1: Speaking with ABC News Radio at the event, the Wilson sisters mused about what celebrity they’d like to induct Heart at the ceremony, which takes place on April 18 at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre L.A. Live. Nancy quipped, “There’s a committee, a team of experts already on this job.  We’ve been throwing names at them but everybody says, ‘Shh.'” Added Ann, “No one wants to discuss it.  It’s a big secret…But, if it were me, I’d like Robert Plant to induct us.” As for what songs the band might play at the big event, Nancy said, “I figure something like ‘Barracuda’ might be a natural, ’cause it’s definitely a rock song.” Ann, meanwhile, suggested that “‘Crazy on You’ would be good too.”

Tom Lane, who predicted all 6 Inductees: Heart had to have been close last year.  And they had a lot going on this year, with a book, CD and box set all coming out.

DallasNews: Heart helped change the face of women in rock back in the mid 1970s. Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson proved that women could write kicking, enduring rock songs, front full-fledged rock bands and even be the rock band. Plus, Ann Wilson is one of those rare rock singers that can still belt the old hits in their original keys. Her voice has held up fabulously.

Bravewords: MEGADETH’s Shawn Drover: Heart was and is also a huge influence of me; in my opinion, there is not one woman on the face of the earth who has, can or ever will sing as well as Ann Wilson! Don’t even get me started on how amazing Michael Derosier and Roger Fisher are. I could go on for hours on that. Heart is another band that really carved their own musical path.

Update 13:30 PM PT: And this concludes the live coverage. Once again: after a second nomination, Heart has been made part of the class of 2013 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 2013, the 28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. The induction ceremony will broadcast on HBO on Saturday, May 18 at 9pm ET/PT. Tickets to the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony go on sale to the public on Friday, January 25th.

Update 12:58 PM PT: Steve Fossen spells out the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band.

Update 12:36 PM PT: Charles Cross: “You know, music is not the exclusive domain of the male gender but that’s the way unfortunately that the Rock Hall has operated. So it’s a horrible oversight that they have not been in before,” says Seattle-based author Charles Cross, who co-wrote this year’s autobiography of Heart “Kicking and Dreaming” with Ann and Nancy. “I can’t remember the exact statistic now with the addition of Heart, but previously somebody added it up and it was like 10 percent of the performers in the Hall were female and that’s a crime I think that needed to be addressed and still needs to be addressed,” Cross says.

Update 12:30 PM PT: Ann & Nancy are actually at the press conference where the inductees were announced! The Rock Hall just posted the picture (also on the left).

Update 12:16 PM PT: That’s the solution for this old lineup thingy: naming Craig as Roger Fisher.

Update 12:12 PM PT: Ann Wilson’s Twitter: “We’ve been inducted to the @rock_hall and are thrilled!!! Thank you to all of the Heart Fanatics Heart Mongers fans rockhall2013″

Update 12:10 PM PT: Ann on Billboard.com: Wilson says the induction is expected to include the other members of Heart’s “Dreamboat Annie” lineup, including guitarist Roger Fisher, bassist Steve Fossen, drummer Michael DeRosier, and longtime guitarist-keyboardist Howard Leese, an experience she expects to be “very unusual” given the romantic entanglements and interpersonal dynamics of that time. “It’ll be kind of like getting together with your old aunts and uncles who you haven’t seen for 30 years,” Wilson says. “We haven’t really kept in touch with those guys. It’s been a long time. I still live in Seattle and most of them do, too, but our paths just don’t cross.” […] “a lot of shows to do in 2013.”

Update 12:01 PM PT: Heart’s Facebook EXPLODES. Here’s their post: “It’s official…we have been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Thank you to all of our fans for the support throughout our musical journey. We wouldn’t be here without you!”

Update 11:54 AM PT: The press release on RockHall.com.

Update 11:52 AM PT: Geddy Lee of Rush on RollingStone.com: “I certainly have worked with Heart and I know them well. I’m very happy for them.”

Update 11:25 AM PT: Some quotes from Ann & Nancy on RollingStone: “We’ve just had this long running joke about it for so many years. But I got the text while I was at the airport and it took a little while to sink in.” On playing with the old lineup: “That’s speculation. I think they’ll be all be inducted, but the performing part might be different because of the whole Ann and Nancy Wilson versus the Heart band. We’ve been playing with our current band way, way longer than that. You know this is one of those things we’ll need to dust off among ourselves. But we’re both really happy if the initial lineup of guys gets acknowledged.” But you’re not willing to perform with the old lineup? Ann: “No. Nope”.

Update 11:20 AM PT: The rumor/leak of last night was correct!

Update 11:15 AM PT: RollingStone: Rush, Public Enemy, Heart, Randy Newman, Donna Summer and Albert King. CONGRATULATIONS!

Update 11:13 AM PT: HEART IS IN!!! link to rollingstone.com

Update 11:05 AM PT: a pressrelease is coming after the announcement in LA, according to FRL

Update 11.00 AM PT: anytime now….. I promise I won’t curse when they get pushed out again.

Update 10:50 AM PT: If NWA is in, that would trash the rumored list. The band is also not in the FRL predictions, nor very popular in the public polls.

Update 10:45 AM PT: NWA is in as well? Rumor! That would eat away from the slots for Rock bands!

Update 10:37 AM PT: Supposedly the announcement is now at 11:30 AM PT.

Update 10:29 AM PT: Why is it so quiet at the Heart Camp? What could it mean?

Update 9:43 AM PT: Sue Ennis “Rock& Roll Hall of Fame inductees will be revealed at press event at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles tomorrow at 11 a.m. PT.” Oh, oh boy!

7:54 update

Update 7:54 AM PT: 97.3 The Arrow (pictured) is talking about an unconfirmed report that Rush & Heart made it! Crossing fingers!

Update 4:40 AM PT: Public Enemy seems pretty much confirmed. This means we can now wait for the rock choices!

Update December 11th 2:30 AM PT: as it is night in the US, the stream of rumors and news has dried up. A small rumor about Public Enemy being one of the inductees. Which would be the second correct name of another rumored list, of which Heart is part. However that rumor is from a not so solid source on the Rock Hall’s wiki.

Update December 10th 22:48 PM PT: FutureRockLegends reports that Donna Summer is among the Inductees. Awesome! But will this hurt Heart’s chances? Make sure you follow FutureRockLegends as well today.

Update December 10th 22:43 PM PT : Though the public seems confident about the girls (& boys) getting in (being third in two big polls, including an official one), the experts have different views on this. Some say they’re a lock and some say this will not be Heart’s year.

Update December 10th 22:38 PM PT: THE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE ROCK HALL will be on December 11th at 11AM Pacific Time by Flea! This post will follow the events today.

  1. I couldn’t be happier. The long delay is inexplicable, but I’m grateful the honor finally came to the band and all its personnel over the years.

  2. Years. On one hand, I’ve respected Heart’s choice to drop live performances of “All I Want To Do”On the other hand, when met where you are,I can’t think of a better time.
Out of Heart’s inner workings:”If you can’t see my mirrors,I can’t see you.” The tree falling in the woods. It will fall.It will be heard.
This too, is recorded in a parked lot.
