Interesting article. In the 80’s happened a technical revolution. And many people wanted to be part of it, using the new possibilities. The first thing that comes to me, long before the lyrics, is the music arrangement. And here the music world has very often has been reduced to a synthesizer sound without a soul. Many songs sound a bit similar to others and, for me, cold. The special look, the human 2.0, on TV got more important than natural musicians that played their music on stage for their fans. A positive early use of synthesizer sound in a rock song is in “Magic Man” from the 70’s. Here it was a part of the song as a new facet, but don’t destroyed the straight feeling of this song to the listener through bits and bytes.
More than “What About Love” (I love Nancy’s new title “The Swiffer Song”) I love the timeless 80’s songs “These Dreams”, where Nancy’s wonderful talents in singing and playing are coming wonderful together, and “Alone”, which is the perfect song for Ann’s great voice.
Anyone think Heart’s next album should be called Heart 3.0 LOL?
