In a major new exhibition at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum it’s all about the women. Ann & Nancy are part of the exhibition. Cleveland.com have Ann & Nancy share some stories:
Ann: […] “You might have to ask one of the really young women who have to wear the six-inch pin heels when they dance backwards and sing at the same time with Auto-Tune if they like it, if all the effort is worth it. Because there’s so much sacrifice that needs to be made. At some point, there has to be a balance between what you put into it and the payment due to you. I’m not talking about money. I’m talking about expression and feeling that you’ve succeeded for yourself. I’d like to know from the horse’s mouth of somebody who is just starting out now, like Lady Gaga, if she thinks it’s worth it. The thing that we’ve always been working on trying to get to is not the separation of the genders, but a way that we can have a conversation as humanity. Where do we intersect, besides the bedroom? Where else? There has to be more to it than that, you know?”
Nancy: […] “But it’s really cool to see someone like Adele nowadays coming at it. She’s not coming through the fashion door. She’s coming through the musical door first, and she a more authentic, organic thrust. Adele seems really incredible to me.”

Interesting to hear Ann talking about striving to not separate the genders when that’s EXACTLY what The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame has done with this silly ‘Women’s section’ of their hall. It’s like a mulligan. It’s like ‘Hey, we can’t include some of you bitches with the big boys, so here–have your own section. You’re so awesome tho!!’
I’m sorry to be ‘negative’ but that’s what it is when you look thru all the bullshit.
And don’t diss Gaga just because she’s in heels and sings to electronic pop. She is a true one-off ARTIST and I don’t wanna hear otherwise. She absolutely has a clear intent and authenticity about her, writes her own stuff, conceives of her own vision and performance art and it doesn’t matter if she’s doing it in heels and a bra. You can’t judge it that way. Judge all the rest of the paltry crap pop stars, but not Gaga. She’s in a league of her own. Did you even SEE The Monster Ball? Just don’t even..
Nancy, omg I love both of you so much, I’m not a non-fan here but what you are saying about Adele vs (and I know you’re kinda alluding to it) Gaga is STUPID.
Answer me this: Did Bowie come through the fashion door? Did Elton? Did Iggy POP, did Freddy MERCURY? FUCK YES THEY DID!! But its ok for them right? Cause they’re guys. Why is it different for men? Just think about that a little while and don’t be so quick to diss ARTISTS like Lady Gaga because they just happen to be women doing the EXACT SAME THING as the male artists I mentioned. It’s sort of a shadow form of misogyny, your viewpoints.
