A nice long article and interview with Nancy on mlive.com about being women in rock, how they got here and about the upcoming Heart album. Here’s a snippet about the upcoming album, but read and hear (you can even download the 22 minute interview as mp3, if you’re nifty, use “save target as”…. Hi podsters! excuse me? Hi Podsters! I’m sorry, what? Hi Podsters! Oh and meet GPS lady!) more by clicking on this link.
A week before Heart was scheduled to take the stage at Muskegon Summer Celebration, Nancy Wilson was driving to a recording studio near Hollywood, California. That’s where the band is working on their next album scheduled for release in early 2010. It will be the band’s first album of all new material since 2004’s Jupiter’s Darling, which Nancy Wilson produced.
Acclaimed producer Ben Mink is overseeing the new album, which is expected to include the track “Sand.” The song is written in memory of a fellow member of the Seattle rock scene, Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley.
“The sound of the album so far is really shaping up to be almost like the earliest of the early Heart,” said Nancy Wilson. “It’s very ‘all together,’ it’s a band thing — together in the same room. It’s a vibe that only a band gets when it plays together.”
Expect more Wilson sister harmonies on the new album and a return to a harder rock sound reminiscent of the band’s 1970s era, said Nancy Wilson.
“It’s going to be a cool album,” said Wilson, who explains that the group’s reduced output of new music in recent years is due to family obligations.
“We started having a family and that really slows you down because you have to divide your time fairly between your work and family — it’s not an easy thing to do,” she said.
“I can testify to you that it’s about love and our family. “The longer we’re on top, the more I realize how rare we are.”
Thanx to cowpote for the find!
