Hollywood Reporter:<\/a> Nirvana, The Supremes, Ma Rainey, Slick Rick to Receive Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards. The academy announced Thursday that Nile Rodgers, Bobby McFerrin and Heart\u2019s Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson will also receive the coveted honor at the Special Merit Awards Ceremony on Feb. 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grammy<\/a>: Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson are being recognized as Lifetime Achievement Award honorees for their creative work with the rock band Heart<\/strong>. Heart was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, sold over 35 million records, garnered four GRAMMY Award nominations, landed 10 Top 10 albums, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, had several No. 1 hits, and achieved “the longest span of top 10 albums on the Billboard<\/em>charts by a female-led band.” Heart’s influence can be palpably felt everywhere from rock and heavy metal to hip-hop and pop. As a result, their music resonates in nearly every corner of pop culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Billboard<\/a>: The Wilson sisters \u2013 Ann, 72 and Nancy, 68 \u2013 are being recognized for their work with Heart. This marks the first time a pair who weren\u2019t known as an ongoing duo has received a lifetime achievement award. Four formal duos have been honored \u2013 The Everly Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel, The Louvin Brothers, and Sam & Dave. Heart received four Grammy nominations, divided evenly between pop and rock performance categories, but they have yet to win. Heart was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. Heart landed seven top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, including the No. 1 Heart<\/em>, and had nine top 10 hits on the Hot 100, including the No. 1 hits \u201cThese Dreams\u201d and \u201cAlone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Updated February 5th 2023: <\/strong>Billboard: Nancy Wilson, who received a lifetime achievement award along with her absent sister Ann Wilson, recalled that when they formed Heart in 1974, they wanted to be The Beatles. \u201cNot to be married to them, or to be the girlfriend of one of them, but to be<\/em>The Beatles.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wilson added \u201cWhat an honor to stand next to this force of nature (referring to Ann) and rock our butts off.\u201d She thanked such industry boosters as Don Passman, Rob Light and John Sykes and thanked the audience \u201cfor helping us survive the sheer insanity of this rock and roll circus. We couldn\u2019t care less about the gender politics of the time and we still don\u2019t.\u201d Merck Mercuriadis, founder of Hipgnosis Songs, accepted the award on Ann Wilson\u2019s behalf. He recalled being a 12-year-old in Canada and hearing Heart\u2019s first hit \u201cMagic Man\u201d on the radio and said he has been a fan ever since. He noted that Ann is still going strong \u2013 featured on a track on Disturbed\u2019s new album and on Dolly Parton\u2019s upcoming rock album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
