February 15th 2026<\/strong>: Blabbermouth<\/a>: “We’ve got a big movie, and we’ve got a final draft soon to read that\u00a0Carrie Brownstein<\/strong>, actually, [is working on] \u2014 she did\u00a0‘Portlandia’<\/strong>, of\u00a0SLEATER-KINNEY<\/strong>\u00a0fame \u2014 she’s a buddy and she’s a good writer too,”\u00a0Nancy<\/strong>\u00a0said. “And we’ve been working mainly with her\u2026 And it’s so weird too, ’cause you kind of have to go, well, okay, who would be the actor that plays you?” Asked which actress she would like, in a perfect world, to play her,\u00a0Nancy<\/strong>\u00a0said: “For me, I mean, somebody like\u00a0Elle Fanning<\/strong>. She’s great.\u00a0Florence Pugh<\/strong>\u00a0would make an incredible\u00a0Ann Wilson<\/strong>, I think. I don’t know. It’s just fun to think about anyway.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n A documentary is also in development about Heart, as is one about Ann.<\/p>\n\n\n\n October 24th 2025<\/strong>: In an interview with Laura Lee and Ross Maxwell of\u00a0105.7 WAPL<\/strong><\/a>, Nancy said that despite recent roadblocks the movie is once again on track. \u201cWe\u2019re still getting our script pounded out with Carrie Brownstein (of indie band Sleater-Kinney, sketch comedy show\u00a0Portlandia<\/em>). We\u2019re actually about to have a powwow with Carrie. We\u2019re looking at finishing the script real soon.\u201d [Ann] is pretty Teflon\u2026 she\u2019s pretty bulletproof,\u201d said Nancy. \u201cWe\u2019ve been out on the road already for quite a while this year after we had to delay and she beat the ass of cancer and we came back out pretty victorious.\u201d […] However with all the delays, Wilson says the film project is moving forward. \u201cA lot of stuff got paused along with the tour but now we\u2019re kind of back on track. We\u2019re looking to polish up the script and start casting it pretty soon even though we had a delay in the process.\u201d Although no one has been cast as of yet, a few names have been connected to the project. In fact, two names being floated around to play the Wilson sisters are another set of acting siblings \u2013 Dakota and Elle Fanning. \u201cAt one point they were really interested after the first draft of the script,\u201d said Nancy Wilson. \u201cSo I would be really happy if they would still be interested when the script is\u2026 polished up and distributed around the actor\u2019s community again. I know Elle Fanning can do some vocalizing and so can Dakota.\u201d […] In a 2020 interview, Ann Wilson stated that Anne Hathaway showed interest in playing one of the sisters but\u00a0didn\u2019t \u201cthink she\u2019s exactly right for it\u201d. However, Nancy says never say never. \u201cI dropped her name at one point\u2026 way long time ago. We\u2019re not counting her out for either \u2018Ann\u2019 or \u2018Nancy\u2019 or any involvement whatsoever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n August 28th 2025: <\/strong>Ann had announced her own documentary. A trailer<\/a> had been revealed. That\u2019ll be interesting! Let\u2019s see if she has Nancy appear in it!? <\u2014 is that a weird question?<\/p>\n\n\n\n August 27th 2025<\/strong>: Nancy on lehighvalley.com<\/a>: This whole year has already been sort of a celebration of the 50th year of \u2018Dreamboat Annie\u2019s\u2019 release,” Nancy Wilson said. “And we\u2019ve done a lot of retrospectives as far as documentary-type stuff and just collecting archives and putting stuff together for a documentary.” But there’s also a dramatic film in the works that will tell the story of Heart, Wilson said. “We\u2019re just about to get the casting part of it started, so it will be awhile until the script is all ready \u2014 the script is in progress,” Wilson said. “And I can\u2019t wait to score music for it.” November 27th 2024<\/strong>: UCR Podcast<\/a>: Nancy revealed that “another writer is doing rewrite on Carrie Brownstein’s original script which is kinda bringin it more in focus. So gradually you know at some point our story will be told. One of these decades our story will be told on a big screen and it’ll be fun.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n May 15th 2024<\/strong>: Rolling Stone<\/a>: The band\u2019s legacy will be further cemented in an upcoming biopic that\u2019s being written and directed by Carrie Brownstein; Ann says Florence Pugh has been considered to play her. <\/p>\n\n\n\n March 20th 2024:<\/strong> Nancy says in Alec Baldwin’s podcast: “You know, we’re getting a film together about our story, which is not easy. We’re trying to get a writer to it. But people say, you know, who would play you, you know, if you’re doing a movie about Heart? And right now, I mean, I know Elle Fanning can sing, and so I’m thinking Elle Fanning and Dakota for Ann would be so interesting of a pair up because they’re sisters too. [..] blood harmony right?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n January 22nd 2024<\/strong>: Writer Carrie Brownstein gives Stereogum<\/a> an update: Now, speaking of rock royalty, Carrie, are you still working on the Heart biopic script? BROWNSTEIN: I have finished my version of the biopic, and we are probably going to do more rewrites. Here\u2019s the thing that\u2019s so frustrating about that world, is that things kind of languish in development for a long time, so I hope it happens. Honestly, doing the research for that script, getting to meet with Ann and Nancy Wilson, it\u2019s a highlight for me. Both of those women are incredible. I\u2019ve spent a fair amount of time with both of them in person and also have done so much deep diving into their catalog and their history. And it was a way of celebrating the Pacific Northwest, at a time that predates Sleater-Kinney, which I think was important to learn about and also predates a lot of what people know about Northwest music, because Heart was around well before Nirvana or Soundgarden. They were up in Vancouver, BC, that\u2019s where they started. They are a Seattle band. They\u2019re from the Bellevue. But the band really formed up in Vancouver, BC, so shout out to Vancouver, BC. They don\u2019t get a lot of shout-outs music wise from the \u201970s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n October 13th 2023<\/strong>: Ann on Blabbermouth<\/a>: During an appearance on the first episode of the “Totally 80s” podcast with host Lyndsey Parker, Ann Wilson offered an update on the previously announced HEART biopic. The movie about the Seattle rock greats is being written and directed by Carrie Brownstein, of SLEATER-KINNEY and “Portlandia” fame, and is being produced for Amazon by Lynda Obst, who has produced more than 20 movies and TV shows, including “Interstellar”, “Contact”, “Sleepless In Seattle”, “The Fisher King”, “Flashdance”; Amazon’s “Good Girls Revolt”, TVLand’s “Hot In Cleveland”, SyFy’s “Helix” and NBC’s miniseries “The ’60s”. Ann stated about the status of the HEART biopic: “The pandemic kind of slowed them down a little bit, but it’s in the works still. Carrie Brownstein’s writing it. I’ve seen a couple of drafts of the script. It’s good. She’s a great writer. If anybody can capture the story of a couple of women in rock, it’s probably Carrie, ’cause she’s been there herself. And Lynda Obst is one of the producers.” Asked if she knows yet who is playing her and\/or her sister Nancy, Ann said: “There’ve been a few things bandied about, but nothing solid yet.” Pressed about whom she would like to play her, and if she wants it be someone “who can sing,” Ann said: “I’d like somebody who could sing, and then they could sing some, I could sing some. I think that my preference would be somebody young and brand new and fresh \u2014 somebody who’s really got their shit together in terms of being into the script.” July 21st 2022<\/strong>: Worcester Magazine:<\/a> there is a biopic “in the works” that is being produced for Amazon, Wilson said. Wilson has been a consultant. “It kind of got shut down” during the pandemic, but is still a viable project. Sleater-Kinney\u2019s vocalist-guitarist Carrie Brownstein has been tapped to write the script. Besides being a musician, Brownstein is an actor, writer, director and comedian. “It should be good,” Wilson said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n June 18th 2022<\/strong>: Boston.com<\/a>: And fans everywhere can look forward to the in-the-works Heart biopic, of which Carrie Brownstein is the writer and director. \u201cOf anyone I can think of,\u201d Ann Wilson averred of the Sleater-Kinney singer\/guitarist and \u201cPortlandia\u201d star, \u201cshe would probably get it right, because she\u2019s in a band herself, and she\u2019s a woman, and she knows exactly what the trip is there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n April 24th 2022<\/strong>: Independent:<\/a> It is very strange, just the idea of somebody portraying me,\u201d Ann Wilson says. \u201cBut Carrie just really gets it. She\u2019s the best \u2013 so smart and funny and talented. And she\u2019s trying to make sure it doesn\u2019t fall into so many of these rock movie cliches. She\u2019s trying to get away from that and really tell the story of what it\u2019s like for these two people, my sister and I. Ann Wilson: No, they\u2019re still keeping it pretty close to the vest. I think that Carrie Brownstein is still putting the finishing tweaks on the script. Of course, everything shut down for the pandemic, so that sort of set them back but they\u2019re back in the office now and they\u2019re working on it again. So it\u2019s still comin\u2019. Rock Cellar: Are they in touch with you on a regular basis? Ann Wilson: Right before the pandemic hit, Carrie came to my house and stayed here for a bunch of days and we sat for hours and just talked and chatted. She asked me questions and I told her stories. So she has lots of in-depth, direct access. And I think she\u2019s gonna get it right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n January 24th 2022<\/strong>: LasVegasSun:<\/a> On the horizon is perhaps the most exciting film project of Wilson\u2019s musical career: a Heart biopic. Nancy: \u201cThere\u2019s a movie about Heart in the works and we\u2019re polishing it up right now. It\u2019s a pretty great script and we\u2019re pitching it to Amazon,\u201d she says. \u201cI\u2019m just saying, if this film gets made, I\u2019m definitely the scoring artist. It involves our lives in Heart as sisters and musicians and survivors. It\u2019s about going through life, not just the big performance stuff, but all the personal stuff, the trials and tribulations and trying to stay afloat in the unruly world of rock and roll.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n May 4th 2021<\/strong>: Yahoo<\/a>: Nancy thinks Florence Pugh or Brie Larson would be a good pick to play her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n February 18th 2021<\/strong>: ABCnews<\/a>: Nancy says of Brownstein, “[S]he’s so good. Her writing is really perfect for our story.” Nancy also tells ABC Audio that the film will “be based mainly” on the 2012 memoir Kicking & Dreaming<\/em>, which she and Ann co-wrote. As for the status of the project, Nancy notes that it’s “on hold” because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Nothing can really happen right now, because we can’t cast it or get a crew together,” she explains. “And the third act is still not finished even. So, you know, we’re whittling away.” Nancy, who’s worked on several film scores over the years, also tells ABC Audio that she “would insist on scoring the [Heart] movie.” Regarding who might be cast to star in the biopic, Nancy says, “It would be really cool to discover somebody. And\u2026the obvious prerequisite would be somebody that could play guitar pretty well and actually sing somewhat well. And in the case of someone doing Ann\u2026that’d have to be a really<\/em> good singer, ’cause you can’t just rely on\u2026lip-syncing all the time.” January 23rd<\/strong> 2021<\/strong>: In her Washington Post interview on Insta<\/a>, Ann said that she wasn\u2019t supposed to disclose (more) information about the project. So let\u2019s wait and see when we hear from Amazon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n November 29th 2020<\/strong>: Ann was interviewed by Lyndsey Parker on SiriusXM last week and soon after several outlets (Entertainment Weekly<\/a> | Variety<\/a> | RollingStone<\/a> | UltimateClassicRock<\/a>) reported about Ann’s announcement about a Heart Biopic, starting with Lyndsey’s own article on Yahoo<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n And here are the highlights: Seattle-born Carrie Brownstein, also known as the star of IFC\u2019s Portlandia<\/em>, is writing the script, and will also direct. Lynda Obst, renowned for her work on Flashdance<\/em>, Adventures in Babysitting<\/em>, Sleepless in Seattle<\/em>, and many other box-office smashes, will produce the project for Amazon. [..] Ann: \u201cA few actresses have come forward, but no one that’s right,\u201d Ann said. A certain Oscar-winner was actually passed over: \u201cAnne Hathaway came forward, but I don’t think she’s exactly right for it,\u201d Ann explained. March 19th 2025<\/strong>: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel<\/a>: The film’s being co-written by Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein, who had her own esteemed television writing career with “Portlandia,” and award-winning playwright and screenwriter Jessica Goldberg. Nancy Wilson is overseeing the script drafts. “We’re getting the ending right now \u2026 and we’re about to cast it,” Wilson said, adding that there’s also interest from different companies pursuing a Heart documentary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
April 3rd 2023<\/strong>: Nancy can be heard<\/a> saying that they have a movie in development and are casting even!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
February 10th 2021<\/strong>: Undertheradar<\/a>: There\u2019s a new movie in the works about Heart. Are you looking forward to it, are you involved in it?<\/strong>Ann: Well, yeah, I\u2019m looking forward to it big time. It\u2019s under development at Amazon, so I\u2019m not really in on the ground floor of what\u2019s going on with it at this moment. But it\u2019s being written by Carrie Brownstein and I\u2019m involved to the extent that I\u2019ve sat with Carrie for many hours and she just interviewed me. We just talked and had discussions where she got a fix on who I am and who Nancy is. I\u2019ve seen the original first draft of the script\u2014there will be a few more drafts.
