Updated June 6th 2015: The release date seems to have been moved to June 5th?

Added June 17th 2015: Though not yet spotted in the stores, you can now buy it on iTunes (or listen to the samples). The tracks on iTunes are listed as REMASTERED. By listening I confirmed that this is indeed the -well circulated among Heartmongers around the world- 1987 Portland Oregon show.

Added June 20th 2015: The CD has arrived in stores. It comes in a jewel case with some nice liner notes in a 4 page booklet. The audio is remastered.

New Japanese CD releases in May

Bad Animals

Bad Animals

Universal is releasing a few Heart albums in Japan on May 20th 2015, supposedly to mark an anniversary. The packaging is supposed to be a simple Jewel case and no extra tracks are released, so that’s a little bit of a letdown. They are remastered though and come in the SHM-CD format:

SHM-CD is a digital optical disc data storage format. It is an improved compact disc format with the greatest change being a different polycarbonate material that allows more precise physical representation of stored bits during pressing and less laser scatter during reading. These improvements aim to facilitate playback by producing less errors and potentially better sound quality. SHM-CDs are played on a standard CD player. The format was developed in Japan by Universal Music Japan and JVC. The same material can also be used to manufacture SHM-SACD discs.

Ron Nevison looks back

EMI's 1988 Boxset "With Love From Heart"

EMI’s 1988 Boxset “With Love From Heart”

“I loved the songs they had, but I didn’t think they had any that could be a big single and translate over to CHR. So I grabbed a song that was sitting on Don’s desk called “If Looks Could Kill” that was headed to Tina Turner. I thought it would be a good one for [Heart’s] Ann Wilson to sing.” [….] “Look, I was brought in by the label and management to get the job done, and that meant I sometimes had to lead them screaming and kicking into the charts. What can I say? It is what it is.”
