New songs and reinvented songs

Ann Wilson on KSLX:  “We’ve kept making records, we’ve kept playing shows. Sometimes we’re up, sometimes we’re down, but there we are. We love doing it, I think people can relate to that. We don’t try to be something we’re not. We’ll go to where the people live [chuckle] and they appeciate that.”

“Yes, we are. We are just finishing up a new record here in L.A. And it’s being rough-mixed right now. We have one more song — it’ll be out before the tour starts. Right now, the working title is Iconograph. It’s some new songs that have never been heard before; some really super old under-the-radar songs that we have reinvented.”

The reinvented songs are likely to include “One Word”,  “Johnny Moon” and “Heaven”. Read more here.

  1. Always loved and still do you both you inspired me in my life as a musician/lead singer. thank you can’t wait to hear the new album!!

  2. I know I already commented…but one final thought. A change in producers for this album would be nice. How about Rick Rubin or T-Bone Burnett. Someone totally different from the Ben Mink sound to really make this album out of this world. (Not bashing the past work, but I don’t feel like the vocals were captured quite well on the past projects. I listen to Straw into Gold that Ann did recently and hope for that quality of production).

  3. Totally agree with Brett, Ben Mink did some amazing things with K.D. Lang’s voice on her albums, but I wasdone after 1 CD with he & Heart. T-Bone would be amazing, or Don Was?

I’m placing my bet re-work of Language of Love ; )

  4. Agree with Michael. I liked the past two albums, but the production on both of them was not kind to Ann’s voice. On Red Velvet Car there were parts on the album where Ann’s voice was either covered up by production or so heavily produced itself that she sounded hoarse. When WTF came out a friend of mine told me “I heard Heart’s no song on the radio and it sounds like Ann has lost her voice”. If I hadn’t been seeing Heart live so often I would have thought Ann was losing her voice after hearing RVC. Fanatic was quite a bit better in that regard (thankfully!), but instead of messing with Ann’s voice Mink went crazy with the strings (the strings were fine on Mashalla and a couple of others, but a little goes a long way and Mink pretty much shoved them down our throats).

Just my opinion, but I welcome a new producer on this new album. I’m thankful for Mink taking on the projects and helping get some visibility, but I guess I’m just not a fan of his production techniques.

  5. Agreed, Bob. The fiddle just doesn’t fit into their style and I would like to smash it like John Belushi smashing that guitar in Animal House.
