As expected, performing in front of the entire nation, Ann sparked a stream of comments on Twitter, both raving and shocked alike, and some shady “news” sites had expected her to sing like the auto-tune poprobots that dominate the waves nowadays. Deadspin.com: Anthem traditionalists might hate the creativity on the climax, but this is Ann Wilson. She can do what she wants. USA today: Comments quickly rolled in about how Wilson rocked it, and plenty of fans raved about her rendition.

MyNorthwest (AUDIO INTERVIEW!): Heart’s Ann Wilson sang the national anthem and told Dori and the pre-game show hosts she had some nerves before the big performance. “If you don’t feel some kind of nerves before you do something, that means you don’t care. I care a lot about the Seahawks and I want to do it right.”

  1. I thought Ann was spectacular. I think the controversy is coming from the note she hit on “land of the free” and went up high on “free” and rolled it down. It was a little bit of a jolt but it was exciting. Then when she hits the last word, ‘brave’, with that roar, and holds it I get chills and goosebumps. And I’m not American…haha. Anyway, she sings it with such passion and power…and no auto tune or lip-sync!!!! :-)

  2. I LOVE HEART’S ANN WILSON AND I THINK SHE DID A FANTASTIC JOB OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEM…SO SHE SUNG A COUPLE OF WORDS DIFFERENTLY, IT STILL IS THE NATIONAL ANTHEM FOR THE STATES…GREAT JOB ANN.

  3. Ann did an amazing job honoring our country. Without creativity, where would we be? Ann Wilson did an OUTSTANDING job!!

  4. no idea why there would ever have been talk about this performance being anything but spectacular? huh? what? Ann dazzled as usual and gave me goosebumps. I always say it, but what a voice. so resilient and strong, even into her 60s. She’s a national treasure, the end. Love you always Ann! xox

  5. I think she did a fabulous rendition. I don’t like any notes drug out by anybody, except the letter o drug out by Ann herself. So I wasn’t 100% happy with “free” but she did it her way and she rocked the daylights out of it, honoring the song and certainly our country completely! As far as the fans go Seahawks fans are the loudest and the best and I heard a lot of them singing along too which is great.
