Thanksgiving: Ann to sing national anthem

Ann Wilson.

DallasNews.com: In terms of big stage football games, the annual Thanksgiving Day Cowboys game is second only to events like the Super Bowl, which is why the halftime and national anthem duties are usually handed off to pop stars and country singers. But not so this year. The Flying Dutchman himself, Jaap van Zweden, will be leading the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in performing the Star-Spangled Banner ahead of the Cowboys game against the Washington Redskins. Ah, but don’t worry, there will be some star-power in the mix. The DSO will be accompanying Heart’s Ann Wilson. The performance will be part of the nationally televised program on FOX. […] The original arrangement of “The Star-Spangled Banner” was created by Gary Fry especially for Ann Wilson and the Dallas Symphony and will receive its premiere at Cowboys Stadium. More at DallasNews.com

Heart-Music.com: Wilson’s performance will be televised LIVE nationally on the Fox Television network at the beginning of the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game against the Washington Redskins on November 22, 2012 at 3:15 p.m. (CST).

DallasNews.com: Some 45 members of the orchestra will be on the field, with music director Jaap van Zweden conducting. But they’ll only be miming the music, while the sound system will blast out a recording of the full orchestra, made Thursday morning at the Meyerson Symphony Center. Singer Ann Wilson, however, will be “live,” syncing with the recording.
