UPDATE FEB 26: confirmed song title is “Mashalla”.

From Gibson.com:

Heart will release a new studio album titled Fanatic in October.
Guitarist Nancy Wilson revealed the news during an interview on The Eighties Experience radio show with JJ Buchanan on FM 88.5 KSBR in Southern California on Sunday, February 19.
It looks like 2012 will be a big year for the band. A box set and biography are in the works, and the band is booking live dates well into the year. See their tour dates at the band’s official website.
The box set is expected to contain classic songs as well as tracks that weren’t represented on the band’s major label albums.
Heart’s most recent album was Red Velvet Car, which was released in August 2010. Prior to that album’s release, they had only released one album, 2004’s Jupiters Darling, since 1993’s Desire Walks On.

  1. I am excited for this! I can’t wait for the new album, I was wondering what it was going to be called too. :D

  2. Awesome. Strike while the iron is hot. And Heart is hot…AGAIN… the Energizer Bunnies of rock and roll. I love that they are so active and creative and not only releasing the box set and book…but new, fresh music. Love it!!!

  3. Huh?
    Fanatic about what ?
The new title doesn’t sound very Heart-like to me. We need MORE information to figure out this little tidbit of information!

Song titles are needed for clues.

Now if I had a choice of titles, I’d choose something like Arrythymia, Thrombosis, or Tachicardia. -(Sorry to the spelling police.)

  4. My first reaction to this is wow. I also get a wild and grove y vibe from the name FANATIC. My take is that the songs will be short and angular and to the point. As much as I liked Jupiter s Darling. It was too long and sprawling. Like they put to CD and made a double album in some sense.

Another thing is that I felt the energy of Fanatic to be somewhere between Barracuda and Vainglorious.

  5. I’m Excited as Ever too! HEART-PLEASE DON’T START REVEALING OR PLAYING TOO MANY OF YOUR “NEW SONGS” on your Tour because those songs end up on YOU Tube RIGHT AWAY.I Think it’s a MISTAKE to ReVeal TOO MUCH OF THE SONGS TOO SOON OR BEFORE THE CD GETS RELEASED,IT TAKES THE MYSTERY,FUN, SURPRISE AND JOY OUT OF THE PROCESS OF RECEVING THE NEW ALBUM WHEN IT DROPS.I Like t Old LP DAYS ways Better because We Didn’t know AnyThing but the Title of the Album AND FIND ALL the Goodies when we Bought the album! Sort of Like a CHRISTMAS GIFT,WE OPEN IT WITH SURPRISE! With the internet all that change, yes Change is good, BUT KEEP THE SONGS INTACT UNTIL IT’S RELEASE.[WHEN RED VELVET CAR CAME OUT,OVERHALF OF THE SONGS WERE ALREADY OUT MONTHS BEFORE IT DROPPED SO THAT DIDN’T LEAVE ANYTHING TO THE IMAGINATION,IT LACKED THE SURPRISE ELEMENT,It’s a Really Good album though] Just Sharing ,Thank You from your Second Home-VANCOUVER B.C.CANADA! 6. I thought also about the effect when they play a new song before the new CD gets released. There are two sides of the medal. If they would play all new songs on their tour their would be no surprise and longing to get the new CD. And this is important, because we all like to find and explore new things.

On the other side there is the chance to try something new and start a discussion about it. Having maybe 2 or 3 new songs and listen what the fans are saying about them. For this process the fan videos are very positive. And they transport an important message too: “We are working on a new album and let you, the worldwide fans, partially be part of the creation process. The band is still alive and creative.” Maybe the band takes then the best rated 2 songs on the new CD and create the other stuff more secret.

Having some “appetizers” as worldwide seen stage surprises is never wrong, but there should be also enough unanswered secrets and questions inside the new album. The balance is important.
