HEART NOT IN 2012 ROCK HALL

Nancy’s hat survives

The Rock Hall has just announced the 2012 inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (Associated Press ) (Rolling Stone). Heart was one the 15 nominees (for the first time), but Heart is not among those acts to actually be inducted in 2012. Trailblazing for more than 36 years since their first album Dreamboat Annie, Heart has not been chosen over other nominees and only one female act has made the cut: the one no one ever heard of, but she’s famous now!

The 2012 Inductees are: Guns N’ Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, Donovan, The Small Faces/The Faces & Laura Nyro.

NEW YORK (AP) — Welcome to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Guns N’ Roses.

The seminal rock band of the late 1980s and early ’90s, best known for hits like “Welcome to the Jungle,” ”Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “November Rain,” leads the 2012 class of inductees announced on Wednesday. Also making the cut is the hip-hop trio Beastie Boys; rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers; the late singer/songwriter Laura Nyro; Donovan; and influential British rock group The Small Faces/The Faces, which included Rod Stewart and Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood.

Nyro, who wrote such hits the 5th Dimension’s “Wedding Bell Blues” and Blood Sweat & Tears’ “When I Die,” is the only female act to make it this time around. The hall passed on Donna Summer, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Heart and Rufus with Chaka Khan, who were on the ballot for 2012.

Let’s hope the nominating committee will nominate Heart again in 2013.

Nancy Wilson: “We sort of get left off a lot of lists a lot of times and I think we just never, we don’t really, we sort of defy the category thing. Cause think of how many other bands fronted by two girls are there out there, that are heavy rock bands – not too many. And we’re not from New York, we’re not from L-A, we’re from Seattle and Vancouver so I think we’re just kind of easily forgotten when it comes to the popularity contest. But we’ve never tried to win a popularity contest and we’re just trying to do good work.”

Roger Fisher: “Being nominated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was an honor, and reminded me of the bond early Heart had, both in friendship and determination to be a great band. I have very warm feelings and much appreciation for Mike Fisher, Steve Fossen, Mike Derosier, Howard Leese, and Ann and Nancy Wilson. Thanks to our FANS!”

Steve Fossen: “Congratulations to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Class of 2012 … It was a thrill and honor for Heart to be nominated …Thanks to family, friends and fans for all your kind words and encouragement and rock radio for continuing to play our music … Steve Fossen …”

Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses): “I got to know them a bit – I’m the last of eight kids, like my older brothers and sisters, when Heart was playing clubs, I remember them telling me, this was the ‘70s, telling me about this band Heart. Ann and Nancy are ridiculous, ridiculously talented women.”

  1. No virtue or wisdom in their failure to be inducted. What will earn a band a place in the Hall if not nearly 40 years of peerless live performances and touring, not to mention the brilliant range of their music (and the unmatchable range and nuances of Ann’s voice). A ridiculous exclusion.

  2. Obviously a lame decision again this year! I wonder if this type of thing is in their grand plan to generate controversy with the picks to keep the Hall in the news…….

  3. The song Barracuda, of and by itself, deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame. The lack of induction, at this time, points to flaws in the definitions being used to qualify for induction. This reflects badly on the Institution. Heart should quietly and courtiously decline any future involvement with the Hall of Fame. Time will truely tell. Barracuda will be around two hundred years from now. But,it will take a dedicated historian, with a microscope, a while to find any information on the then “obscure” Beasty Boys.

  4. eh, insult. I’d like to hear the reasoning within the conversation to not include Heart. I don’t get it. Beastie Boys are not even rock really. GnR…influential but as influential as Heart? No. Been around as long? No. Have as many hits? Hell to the no. Same with RHCP tho I think they’re a superior band with far more creativity and brilliance than GnR. But it all seems silly when you take a band like Heart who were pioneers and a staple of the great american rock n roll scene of the 70s and huge top 40 hitmakers of the 80s and leave them out but include bands that came way after. And the Hall obviously just sort of hates women. Everyone is human and a musician but lets face it–women in rock have had it bloody harder over the years and Ann and Nancy are tough bitches who made it. That counts for something–alot. Its not handing anyone a mulligan its just recognizing greatness in another form than the cockwaving bravado they’re (the hall dudes) used to. Lame. And Joan Jett frigging deserves to be in there too, I don’t care about all her covers; being in a teen girl band in the 70s that went thru what they went thru is pure rock n roll badassery, ten times more tough than anything GnR or RHCP ever faced onstage or off, ever.

    So yeah, I’m surprised and not surprised, but since the news has finally come in..yeah it hurts. What’s it gonna take dammit? What are the fricking requirements?

    Hall = Fail right now.

  5. One word: RIDICULOUS. I’m shocked at how naive the Hall is with their induction choices. I’m not surprised that Heart did not get in when they SHOULD have been in the Hall for the past 25 years!!! Come on, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart ROCK and they know it.
