Confirmed by billboard.com: Heart’s album Red Velvet Car has debuted in the American Billboard 200 (albumsales) at number 10 with 27.300 copies sold. Returning in the top 10 after 20 years since 1990’s Brigade album, this is truly a fantastic and deserved result. I for one never expected to see my favorite band returning in the general public’s interest! Congratulations to Heart, their staff and all the fans!

In the major webstores Amazon, Barnes & Noble and CDuniverse, the album has been in the top 5 the entire week. On Amazon the album has been number 1 for the total sales of week 30. Reports have been coming in about the album being sold out in regular stores.

Heart’s studioalbums and their highest positions (not debuts) in the Billboard 200:

  1. Dreamboat Annie 1975 (first release) number 7
  2. Little Queen 1977 number 9
  3. Magazine 1978 number 17
  4. Dog & Butterfly 1978 number 17
  5. Bebe le Strange 1980 number 5
  6. Private Audition 1982 number 25
  7. Passionworks 1983 number 39
  8. Heart 1985 number 1
  9. Bad Animals 1987 number 2
  10. Brigade 1990 number 3
  11. Desire Walks On 1993 number 48
  12. Jupiters Darling 2004 number 94
  13. Red Velvet Car 2010 number 10

Earlier this week, Heart returned to the Billboard Adult Contemporary radiochart for the first time in 16 years with their new single “Hey You” at number 30. On this weeks Billboard AC radio chart to move up to number 28.

From Yahoo: Heart’s Red Velvet Car bows at #10. It’s the band’s seventh album to crack the top 10; its first to do so since Brigade in 1990. Heart first cracked the top 10 with Dreamboat Annie in October 1976. This gives the band, which is headed by sisters Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson, a nearly 34-year span of top 10 albums. That’s a new record for the longest span of top 10 albums by a female-fronted band. Others FFBs (female-fronted bands) with long spans of top 10 albums include Fleetwood Mac (28 years), Sade (25 years) and Jefferson Airplane/Starship (18 years)..

The chart showing of Red Velvet Car marks a big improvement over Heart’s last studio album, Jupiters Darling, which debuted and peaked at #94 in June 2004. It opened with sales of 12,000 copies. (Here’s a depressing tidbit: That same sales total would have placed the album at #31 on this week’s chart.).
